Turns out that the big partner with which Mount Holly, New Jersey-based Franklin Electronic Publishers Inc has a deal (CI No 2,270) is the Allen-Bradley Co industrial automation control products unit of Rockwell International Inc: Allen Bradley salesmen will no longer need to carry a foot-high pile of manuals, tutorials and catalogs to sell presence sensors, and will instead take with them a Franklin Digital Book System reader and a single half-ounce IC-ROM Digital Book; the matchbook-size cartridge, called PocketView, will contain the equivalent of over 1,000 pages of printed information covering specifications on every Photoelectric, Limit Switch, and Proximity sensor made by Allen-Bradley, including catalogue number, modular components, and accessories, plus over 200 illustrations of sensors, actuators, and housings, as well as the wiring diagrams for 98% of the proximity devices and interconnection of photoelectric controls and programmable controllers; Franklin also looks to supply Allen-Bradley with personal pagers on a ROM card, as well as other company-specific materials for use by the sales force; terms were not disclosed.
