Franklin Releases Content Developers' Kit for eBookMan Platform Franklin Electronic Publishers, Inc. announced the public release of its content conversion developers' kit (CDK - http://www.franklin.com/devzone) for Franklin Reader. Franklin's CDK will allow publishers to produce ebooks to be read on the eBookMan multimedia platform. The CDK for Franklin Reader is ebook publishing software that provides the tools necessary for publishers and content providers to convert electronic data into Franklin's tagged format (Franklin's proprietary SGML). The CDK comes with a parser to verify the integrity of the tagged file and a compressor to generate the Franklin Reader-compatible "fub" (Franklin Universal Binary) file format. Franklin's CDK generated ``fub'' files can be downloaded to any eBookMan platform. For secure publication, Franklin also offers its eBookMan Digital Rights Management (DRM) to publishers under its DRM licensing agreement. "With the excitement being generated by the anticipation of the eBookMan launch, we're being inundated with requests from content providers from around the world for ebook conversions,'' said Barry Lipsky, President and CEO. ``To meet the growing demand, we're releasing the CDK for Franklin Reader to the publishing community. Content providers recognize the potential impact of the eBookMan platform and have requested the necessary tools to convert all kinds of content, from novels and periodicals to the best in reference works. Our free CDK meets these needs."
